Camden Crossroads: Caring for Carers

Set up to provide much needed help for carers locally, Camden Crossroads has been working with the community in Camden for 25 years. The charity provides support services for carers who otherwise would not get any break or relief from the daily struggle of caring for a dependent relative. Giving them opportunities to have time off for themselves is a vital service appreciated by all the carers who use it.

We were approached by Camden Crossroads for help with the evaluation of their pilot "Young Carers Project". Michael Wootton, our specialist in this field, carried out a detailed review of the monitoring records for the project. He then gathered further evidence of successful outcomes, particularly via interviews with school staff, parents and young carers themselves and analysed all the available evidence.

The analysis included a full appraisal of the project, including the management of the programme and a review of the finances involved, with particular regard to value for money. We considered the plans for continued monitoring after the conclusion of the project, an important feature that has the potential to establish, over time, the level of "real" outcomes resulting from the work.

A report was submitted to Camden Crossroads and has assisted them to further develop their monitoring. Jenny Alphonse, Director, said "This was a really useful report, not only did it meet the needs of the funders but it has been invaluable in helping us to develop our work further."
