Hospital Fundraising Case Study

A recent fundraising review for a major hospital is a good example of an assignment delivered by a specialist team of consultants working together.

Heart of England, which operates four hospitals in Birmingham, is one of the ten largest hospital trusts in the country, with an income of nearly £0.5 billion. Like most NHS Trusts, it also receives donations from patients and relatives, as well as carrying out some fundraising activities itself.

The Trust board wanted to review its fundraising activity and commissioned us to conduct an audit of its opportunities, covering a wide range of areas, including legacies, corporates, trusts, individual giving, major donors and community fundraising.

In order to provide the necessary in-depth experience, we brought together a team of six consultants, who worked together to deliver the assignment. Working with the staff and board, we reviewed each area and prepared a detailed report with recommendations.

This review has identified a number of significant opportunities for the Trust, which it is now looking to pursue.

Our Director Simon George said: "This is a good example of a team assignment, where we drew on the experience of six professionals to deliver the work. Between them, the team brought a combined experience of well over 100 years to bear. The client was delighted with the report and will be acting on our findings."
